We ditched-out of Yangjiang for an afternoon in Zhapo on the South China Sea. A day at the beach is very different in China compared to the US. Very few Chinese people know how to swim, so they rely on swim tubes to stay afloat. As the density of swimmers grew over the course of the afternoon Koko commented “they look like dumplings bobbing around in a pot of water”. Very true.
Chinese people also avoid the strong sun and wear a lot of protective clothing at the beach. Probably smarter than most westerners.
I was testing a new Fuji telephoto zoom lens on this trip and felt a little pervy using a long lens at the beach. I typically use an ultra-wide angle lens for street photography, but using that type of lens at the beach meant I would need to move in pretty close. Too close.
