Wholesale Food in Shenzhen

Ordinarily I wouldn’t write a post about wholesale food, but it was actually an interesting adventure.  Some friends needed to stock-up on meat and invited me to go to a huge restaurant wholesale market in Shenzhen.  The Higreen Wholesale Market is probably one of the largest in Shenzhen, with multiple buildings covering acres of land.  We saw huge squash stacked like firewood.  There were rows and rows of walk-in freezers with every imaginable type of meat.  Each company specializes in a specific types of meat (beef, pork, lamb, etc.).  There was a frenzy of activity, as orders were taken on the phone, prepped and delivered to waiting trucks.  In the US you would need a wholesale contract to buy anything at a place like this, but in China anyone can walk in off the street and buy boxes of meat & produce at wholesale prices.  Pretty sweet deal.

No prize-winning “art” photography here.  Just a little documentary project.
