Well… that was a long business trip. Really long and really amazing. I essentially sat out the pandemic in China – which was one of the safest Covid bubbles on the planet. It was really tough packing up my apartment at the end of my odyssey. I had accumulated a lot of stuff over 14 months, most of which I stored in China for future trips.
Near the end of my trip I visited Kunming and spent some time photographing the enormous flower market there. I walked through the village one last time in early May to say goodbye to all of my friends there. They all thought I was crazy to return to the US, but it’s getting safer every day – plus I had received both doses of the Chinese Covid vaccine.
All of the photos below were taken on film at the end of my “one year of film-only sabbatical”. I processed a total of 138 rolls in my home lab and scanned it all using my Fuji XT-3 and macro lens. Having my own independent film lab cut my costs and gave me instant gratification.
