Night
Hong Kong 2.16
I was in Hong Kong on the first and last day of my month long trip – which is my typical routine since I fly in and out of Hong Kong. I LOVE this city. So much energy! So much great material for street photography!
Ningbo 1.16
Lots and lots of rain in Ningbo. It never stopped. So I spent my time shooting inside a mall or out in the rain.
Hong Kong 11.15
I had a few hours in Hong Kong on my way home and grabbed some street photos after dinner. It was a really great trip and this was the icing on the cake. Once again, these were all taken with a small Nikon P7800 with an extra on-camera flash and not my usual big DSLR as an experiment.
Yangjiang 10.15
I visited Yangjiang twice on this trip, including a period that overlapped with the annual kite festival.
Shekou at Night 7.15
I walked around the Sea World area of Shekou (Shenzhen) and took some annoying flash street photos on this trip.
More Qingxi at Night
I went for a short photo walk after dinner last night. It was Sunday night and the city center was hopping. Using a flash at night is a little invasive, but no one seemed to mind.
Yangjiang at Night
Some more flash photography on the streets. I’m really starting to like this style of street photography. I walked halfway across Yangjiang searching for interesting street scenes after dinner. I worked up a pretty good sweat with the high temperature & humidity.
Qingxi – Blasting a Flash at Night
I tried a new twist on street photography and went out at night using a flash. Usually I’m less-than-obvious when I take photos out on the streets, but last night I turned on the flash and blasted people. It’s a little riskier than shooting from the hip, but I didn’t have any problems. The lighting effect is pretty stark and gritty.
Qingxi Streets
Yet another weekend layover in Qingxi gave me some time at the central market for street photos. A very photogenic place if you can handle the smells.
Night Light
Photography is all about capturing light. At night most modern cameras struggle because digital sensors don’t perform well in low light conditions. My current Nikon D7000 does a great job during the day and in the studio – where there’s light. Not so much at night.
Another Hong Kong Jet Lag Photo Walk
I’ll have to admit – I don’t remember taking these photos. I landed at HKG at 10PM. Got to my hotel in Kowloon at midnight. Slept for about 4 hours, then woke up and walked down to the harbor to take some early morning photos.
Shanghai at Night
I’m at the tail end of another trip and have an extra day to kill in Shanghai. Last night I wandered the neighborhood in Pudong taking a few night shots with the P7700. It takes a little processing to get the noise out, but after a while I started liking the grainy quality. A retro Tri-X Pan black & white vibe.
