This is the second time my China travel schedule overlapped with the annual kite festival in Yangjiang, but because of my tight schedule I could only stay for a brief period in the morning. I think most of the big kites were going to be flown later in the day, so I could only photograph a long dragon kite that was attempting to fly. I think you get better photos of big kites when they’re on the ground. Seems obvious, right?
Because I always like to include people in my photos I went for “over-the-shoulder” shots to give the kites a sense of scale and proximity. This was about the only time on the trip I used my DSLR for photos. I used the amazing Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for these nice wide shots.
