I’m back for my second tour of Yangjiang on this trip and the weather improved a lot. There are actually shadows in these photos!
I have a new friend in Yangjiang (Alex) who is originally from Germany, but has lived in China for the last 15 years. He owns a VERY authentic European restaurant with REAL pizza. I’m eating there fairly frequently because it’s only a 5 minute bike ride from my hotel.
On Sunday Alex and I went on a photo-tour of the old section of Yangjiang which includes a temple complex along the river. On Sundays (and probably every other day) the old folks of Yangjiang gather in a central park and play cards and gamble. They also write long verses in chalk on the sidewalk that I can’t understand, but have a nice abstract appeal to a foreigner. As we strolled through the old people I commented to Alex that the combined age of all of the people in the park was probably about one million years. The temperature was about 75F degrees and some of the folks were dressed for a Minnesota winter.
Technical note: I’ve started toning some of the color photos to have an old “Ektachrome” feeling. I think it adds a nice warm tone to the more traditional themes.
