吉姆 JIM HOFMAN | Photography Faces & places in China

Chinese Japanese Bar

Talking about bad timing.  A bar in China opens with a Japanese theme the same month the whole country starts protesting against Japan’s activities surrounding some off-shore islands.  We stumbled on it in the same alley as the restaurant where we ate dinner.  Because we were some of the first customers to walk in the door* they comped our drinks.  Networking opportunity I guess.

I decided to repay them by coming back with my camera gear and took some promo shots for the place.  I also met my friend Morgan there after taking the photos and we drank a couple more beers.  Nice.  I basically paid the bar tab with these photos…

The bar tender was wearing a traditional Chinese dress and was very photogenic.  The manager lady said she was only 18 years old and this was the first time she had ever worn makeup.  Sure.

* Walking in the door is not an easy task.  They have a traditional SLIDING Japanese style door and a certain photographer wasn’t able to figure that out for a few embarrassing seconds.
