Maid’s Day Off in Kowloon

Sunday is the day that most domestic workers in Hong Kong get a day off.  They generally come from either Indonesia or the Philippines.  The ladies from the Philippines congregate in the Central section of Hong Kong island and the Indonesian ladies flock to Kowloon Park on the peninsula side.  Because their wages are fairly low and most of the money is sent back to their families there isn’t much left to spend on their day off.  They pass the time in the parks talking to friends (new and old), dancing, singing, eating native foods from their home country, and just relaxing in the shade.

We met two of the ladies as they were taking photos of each other on their phones. Their names were CT and CT.  We couldn’t pronounce their Indonesian names, so we went with CT.
